Youve done a great job simplifying the
400 pages of What Color Is Your Parachute? and producing
a 166- page guide for young people. The overall design
is attractive and inviting, with tips and graphics breaking
up the text. The If you want to explore further
section at the end of each chapter is a good idea. The
websites are well selected and not so many as to be
overwhelming. I can hear your voice coming through as
you talk to the reader as a friend, ally,
and guide, with encouragement and warmth.
With very best wishes for the books
ongoing success in making a difference in the lives
of young people,

Carol, I just wanted to let you know how utterly
impressed I am with your book! It is really quite marvelous,
and I have truly enjoyed reading it cover to cover.
I think you have hit a number of very important
issues squarely on the head in a way that will appeal
to anyone from surfer dudes to preppies, and beyond.
Your very practical, engaging personal assessments invite
readers to identify their real passions and skills
far beyond learning the skills needed to hunt for a
job. The discussion on college planning and readiness
is an insightful reality check for teens and their parents.
There are just too many wonderful things to list!

The impact of Carol Christen’s presentation at St Cuthbert's College, Auckland New Zealand was immense, and all positive. Carol’s breadth of knowledge and range of experience saw her share invaluable insights into the journey young people embark on through school toward the world of future study and work.
Whilst she shared much wisdom, her real strength was her ability to capture an audience’s attention: parents and adolescents hanging on her every word. Carol’s infectious love of life and warmth coupled with a most credible research background makes it impossible not to sit up and listen. At times you could hear audible sighs of relief for parents and students alike as Carol debunked myths about career planning and took the fear out of considering the future. Especially encouraging was Carol’s emphasis on not seeing the first post-school destination as one that would set a student’s future in concrete. Her gentle, gracious encouragement of the young to celebrate the fabulous world that lies ahead and to seize opportunities without hesitation or fear was empowering. Equally her interest in the parenting process and empathy for parents watching their children evolve saw parents nodding as she spoke.
It is some time since Carol’s presentation and yet a week does not go by without either a parent or student referring to either What Colour is Your Parachute? for Teens or starts a sentence with 'Well, Carol said…'
It was a privilege to host Carol at our school and our doors will always be open to her in the future, should we be that lucky that she ventures this way again.”

I recently heard Carol Christen speak on the
importance of career advising for teens. Her incredible
research and investigative skills were apparent throughout
the presentation. Carol is an expert career strategist
with years of valuable experience, extensive knowledge,
and a thorough understanding of the challenges faced
by todays career seekers. Carol is an engaging
personality, full of wisdom and humor. I would highly
recommend her as a guest speaker, presenter, and workshop
leader."

Never have the students' responses to a speaker
been so enthusiastic. In both classes my students said
things like Can she come back? or I
wanted to hear more. One person characterized
your talk as the most valuable hour she
had experienced in college. Enthusiasm and then some...Thank
you for what has been a most provocative catalyst for
further discussion."

I thought your presentation at the ICDC was
one of the best at the conference. I liked the way you
incorporated interactive activities with your presentation.
Instead of just presenting ideas, you gave people new
ways of performing counseling through exercises. I thought,
She is a genius! I must use some of her activities
in my counseling practice."

Carol Christen is an independent career
consultant. Since 1979, she has helped clients around the
world determine their career goals and build strategies to
achieve them. Carol designs programs in and teaches Life/work
planning, career change and job search skill training to individuals
and groups.
Carol is a Master Teacher of the effective
and internationally known techniques found in the best-selling
career book, "What Color is Your Parachute? (by Richard
Nelson Bolles). For 18 years, Carol assisted participants
at the Parachute International Two Week Workshop.
From 1999 to 2004, Carol answered questions
from job hunters around the world through Richard Bolles
Web site, www.JobHuntersBible.com.
Carol loves the hunt part of
job hunting. Strategy is her favorite skill. She was quick
to realize that job search requires continual development,
implementation and revision of strategy. Carol believes that
the job hunt can be accomplished quickly, if one has the will
to do so. As director of a county group job search program,
50% of the participants had jobs in 4 weeks; by 10 weeks,
87% of the participants were employed.
She has recently co-authored, with Richard
N. Bolles, What Color Is Your Parachute? For Teens.
The most surprising finding of their research is that typically
consumer savvy teens (as well as their parents) dont
know how to shop for post-high school career preparation.
Carol is currently giving talks to organizations across the
country to disseminate this timely information.
Carol graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA
with a burning ambition to someday teach a college course
about something completely practical. At age 28, she got her
chance. The dean of Management at Sonoma State University,
the late Jeff Doubt, Ph.D., hired her to teach career planning
and job search. As a lecturer, students repeatedly voted her
the best teacher in the department.
In the interim, Carol journeyed from being
a secondary school teacher to a career development professional.
She has taught career planning and job hunting to many audiencesteens
and young adults, college students, adults, and career professionals.
She still gets a thrill when a client realizes that both life
and work can be shaped for a better fit.
Carol is a fanatic gardener. She lives
in the Central Coast of California, where she and her husband
have a small farm where they raise colorful flowers, colorful
chickens that lay colorful eggs, and far too many gophers.
